Setting up the time clock tablet, step by step

Guide for the Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+ in the offer (it works the same on any Android tablet or iPad). It takes about 10 minutes and needs no technical skills.

Updated: October 23, 2026

  1. Before you start
  2. Switch on the tablet
  3. Link the tablet to your company account
  4. Put the time clock full screen
  5. Lock the tablet to the time clock (recommended)
  6. Place the tablet at the entrance
  7. How employees clock in at the tablet
  8. If something doesn't work

Before you start

  1. You need: the charged tablet, the Wi-Fi password at the workplace, and a phone or computer where you log in to QRtimetrack.
  2. No account yet? Create one at qrtimetrack.com → “Try it free” and add your location (office, shop, site) under “Locations & QR codes”.
  3. Add your staff under “Employees”. You can also do it later: the tablet sees them straight away.

Switch on the tablet

  1. Hold the power button until the Samsung logo appears.
  2. Pick the language and connect the tablet to Wi-Fi.
  3. A Google account is optional: you can tap “Skip”. Accept only what is required.
  4. If the tablet asks for updates, let them install now rather than during working hours.

Link the tablet to your company account

  1. On your phone or computer, in the dashboard: “Locations & QR codes” → open the location → “Entrance tablets”.
  2. Type a name for the tablet (for example “Reception”) and tap “Add tablet”. A code appears, valid for 15 minutes.
  3. On the tablet open Chrome and go to qrtimetrack.com/kiosk.
  4. On the “Pair this tablet” screen type the code and confirm. In the dashboard the tablet shows as paired.
  5. When the tablet asks for camera access, tap “Allow”: the camera reads the code on the employee's phone and takes the clock-in photo.

If the code expired, tap “Add tablet” again and use the new code.

Put the time clock full screen

  1. In Chrome tap the menu (three dots, top right) → “Add to Home screen” or “Install app”.
  2. From now on open the time clock from the QRtimetrack icon: it starts full screen, without the address bar.
  3. While the time clock page is open, the screen stays on by itself.

Lock the tablet to the time clock (recommended)

  1. Open Settings, tap the magnifier and search for “pin” (often called “Pin windows” or “App pinning”). Turn it on.
  2. Open the time clock, tap the Recent apps button, tap the QRtimetrack icon above the window and choose “Pin this app”.
  3. Now nobody can leave the time clock to use the tablet for something else. To unpin, hold the Back and Recent buttons at the same time.
  4. Optional: turn on “Do not disturb” so notifications don't cover the clock-in screen.

Place the tablet at the entrance

  1. Put it next to the door, at face height, with the front camera facing people.
  2. Keep it on the charger all the time: you need a socket nearby.
  3. Check the Wi-Fi signal at that spot. Without internet the tablet shows a message and records nothing; people can then clock in from the phone app.

How employees clock in at the tablet

  1. With a phone: they open the QRtimetrack app and show the tablet the “My code” tab. The code changes every 30 seconds, so a photo of it won't work.
  2. Without a smartphone: with the printed badge (from the employee's profile) or a PIN. Set the PIN under “Employees” → the employee → “PIN for the entrance tablet”.
  3. The tablet takes a photo at arrival and departure so you can see who clocked in. Entries show up in the dashboard right away, under “Today”.

If something doesn't work

  1. “Wrong or expired code” when pairing: the code expired or has a typo. Create a new one in the dashboard.
  2. Camera won't start: in Chrome tap the padlock next to the address → “Permissions” → “Camera” → “Allow”, then reload the page.
  3. Replaced or lost the tablet: in the dashboard, under “Entrance tablets”, tap “Remove tablet”. The old tablet can no longer clock anyone in.
  4. Anything else: write to us through the assistant on the site or at contact@qrtimetrack.com.
